I’m just going to come straight out and say it — guest blogging is awesome. If you have any interest at all in growing your blog you should be guest posting. If you are simply sitting back and waitingΒ for traffic to flood to your blog, you will not get very far.
It takes a whole lot of hard work to achieve that “critical mass” where traffic starts to find you — rather than the other way around — and guest blogging is the quickest way to get there. And you can make the journey a whole lot easier by following an effective guest blogging strategy. I just so happen to have compiled such a strategy in a guide that I am making available to you today.
The advice in my guide is based upon my own personal experience along with the observation of some of the best guest posters out there,Β such as Danny Iny, Onibalusi Bamidele, and Greg Ciotti. The advice in my guide is the product of a lot of hard work and trial and error.
My guide to successful guest posting covers the following key areas:
- What Is Guest Blogging?
- Why Should You Guest Blog?
- How To Find Guest Blog Opportunities
- How To Get Your Guest Blogs Approved
- Guest Blogging For SEO
- Writing Guest Blogs That Convert
- The Most Important Part of Guest Blogging
So what are you waiting for? You’re just a few clicks away from having the key to building a successful blog in your hands!
Update 11th February 2013: this guide is no longer available directly from Leaving Work Behind. You can however pick it up from Amazon for just a few bucks. Enjoy!

I was just thinking of guest posting. I like where you said they won’t come to you, but you have to go to them.
Just like results. You want results, you have to make em. I just have to do a couple of things to my blog, and get going in this sick traffic technique :).

Gladly paid with a tweet, and I’ll tweet this again later so you can keep the change ;).

Haha, thanks Greg!

Excellent ebook, Tom! Comprehensive and so insightful. I’m only halfway through it, but I had to stop and leave a comment. π
Tom Ewer says
Thanks Mandy, I really appreciate that! π

Tom,
You are, of course, so right. Guest posting is THE thing to do. In fact, once I come out with my new lead magnet one of my main pushes will be to try to have at least one guest post a week.
It is important that it is done right, though. I know that people can learn a lot from your guide. If you are going to do it… do it right!!
Tom Ewer says
Couldn’t agree with you more Steve. Guest posting can be extremely powerful – if you do it correctly. It similarly can be a completely useless strategy if you go about it in the wrong manner.
Nik@Career Change says
Guest posting is crucial and I should do more of them myself. Still your guide gave me a few more ideas and I probably should stop suggesting topics.
Great guide,
Nik

This is a great free resource, Tom. Gladly paid with a tweet for you. Danny, Onibalusi, and Greg are guest posting beasts; and Danny is actually a disciple of Copyblogger’s Jon Morrow, whose free webinar I just attended yesterday with Carol Tice. Morrow pushes guest posting big time.
As a matter of fact, it appears all of the blogerati (if that’s a term yet) are all starting to announce the importance of doing this simultaneously. At the end of March, Danny did a webinar with Tice on the same thing (he was launching a class at the time, as Jon did yesterday).
By the way, huge high five to you for demonstrating one of your three underused Twitter traffic boosters (pay with a tweet). That was an amazing article. A lot of the people I shared it with found great value in it.

Thanks Mellissa, I really appreciate it! Interesting what you’ve mentioned above, I have something interesting for my readers in a few weeks’ time…

Thanks Tom,
Just gotten the download and sure can’t wait to start reading..

I hope you find it useful! Just let me know if you have any questions.

Hi Tom – Do you offer a way to access the guest posting guide without first sharing a tweet? I’m hesitant to share non-mom-related or non-personal finance related tweets with my followers, but I’d be happy to do other things like give a FB “like” etc. Just wondering!
Thanks,
~Lena

Dear Tom,
I just tried to “pay with a Tweet” and my anti-virus software reported a a virus attack during the downloading process…
Tom Ewer says
Hey Tim,
I’m not sure why that would’ve happened but I’ve actually just transferred this book to Amazon (link above). It’s currently available free of charge until Wednesday.
Cheers,
Tom

I guess I’m a bit late to the party, but is there no way to get your guide on guest blogging anymore?
In the meantime, thank you very much for your work!
Tom Ewer says
I’m afraid not Mike; it’s rather outdated now. Sorry!
