I’m always looking for ways in which I can help you better.
That’s my modus operandi these days. I make enough money to pay the bills and put something aside for a rainy day, so rather that continuing to focus on making more simply for the sake of making more, why not instead focus on (a) doing things I love, and (b) helping people in the process?
That’s where this latest idea comes from. It’s actually an idea I’ve put into practice before, but now I want to bring it into the mainstream, as it were, here on Leaving Work Behind.
In a nutshell, if you want to blog but you don’t have the faintest idea of where to start, I want to help you every step of the way. Not only that, I want to do it completely free of charge.

Introducing the Leaving Work Behind Blogging Mentorship Program
You may already be familiar with Beginner Blogging: a course I created to help beginners with the technical side of blogging. I offer a completely free blog installation and setup service over there, and I want to bring something similar – albeit even better – over to Leaving Work Behind.
In a nutshell, I want to help you with every aspect of installing, creating and growing a blog: from step one to the indefinite future. From plugin and theme recommendations to how to grow an audience and monetize your blog, I want to act as your guide and mentor.
Best of all, if you’ve not yet started your blogging journey, I can do this for you completely free of charge. Because I get paid a commission if you sign up for web hosting through Bluehost (who I use for all of my sites and recommend heartily), that commission can essentially act as my ‘fee’ for helping you out with your blog. So you pay for your hosting and get a free blogging mentor to boot.
If you’ve already got hosting but would still like to take advantage of my mentorship, I’m toying with the idea of offering LWB BMP membership as paid service too. If you are interested in that, let me know in the comments section below.
Sound interesting? Click the link below to find out more and get started! And feel free to share your thoughts in the comments section below; I’d love to know what you think.

This is awesome news, Tom. I love the idea of a blog mentorship program, and free to the boot!
I would definitely be interested in a paid LWB BMP. Something that is targeted towards advanced bloggers.
Tom Ewer says
What kind of support would you want from a paid service Debashish?
Zak says
I would be interested in a paid one, as I am already using siteground for my hosting (they have great customer service).
Tom Ewer says
Thanks for letting me know Zak! What kind of things would you want help with?
Brin Wilson says
Yet another fine idea Tom. Like the above comments indicate (and as you mention you may do anyway), I think if you’re doing this anyhow, why not also make a paid service for those who already have hosting! There’s surely a market here… 🙂
Tom Ewer says
It’s something I’m carefully considering, as interest in a paid service so far has been pretty high! Watch this space…
JM says
I can’t go over to blue host already have hosting but I would be interested possibly in paid mentor ship it just depends on the cost. I would like to know what LWB and BMP? I can’t seem to get these acronyms. I need direction for starters on how to start. I am not sure what else I would need until I got further into doing things.
Tom Ewer says
LWB = Leaving Work Behind (I thought all LWB readers knew that one ;-))
BMP = Blogging Mentorship Program
I like acronyms 😉
JM says
LOL, all but me. I want to know if it is possible to determine if your going to succeed or fail without putting too much time into it. I don’t want to waste time and find out months later I can’t replace my income. Is it possible to access this early on?
Tom Ewer says
There’s no way to guarantee whether anything will succeed or fail. We cannot of course predict the future!
However, what we can do is outline an idea and a strategy for implementing it, then extrapolate a subjective likelihood of success.
If you want to give yourself a chance of success, you do have to be willing to fail.
Joe says
Sounds great!
I’ve already started a blog but haven’t written on its for months and months.
If you were offering a paid course (for those who’ve already started) I’d love to see someway you could help keep bloggers on track who can’t find the motivation to blog.
I think what I need is someone to tell me if I am doing it right or not. That way I would have more faith in my efforts and then be more likely to devote more time to it.
I know you can’t predict the future to tell if something will work out in the end or not, but if you could guide people in the right way, I think it would be a big help to them. Such as “that post was good, but how about one on this topic” or “your audience would prefer more shorter posts rather less longer ones” or “your design sucks, get a better layout” etc.
Some prodding in the right direction and (personalized) tips on what to do better would be a big help to me and perhaps many others who’ve started, but have lost their way during that period between starting and their blog taking off.
I don’t mind signing up for Bluehost using your link, in order to get help on the blog I’ve already started, if it means access to the mentorship.
Let us know how you plan to proceed!
Cheers,
Joe
Tom Ewer says
Hey Joe,
This is all a work in progress, but that is basically the kind of thing I have in mind. Not just tips on themes and plugins, but also bigger questions about branding, strategy, etc.
Cheers,
Tom

Cool. Sounds good, put me down on the guinea pig list 😉

Tom Ewer says
I’m afraid I’m not sure PK – I’m not familiar with Tumblr’s terms and conditions. I suggest you get in contact with them directly to see if the issue can be resolved.

Tom, This is all very timely for me! I mentioned to a friend (who has a great blog) that I would like to start a blog and she sent me the link to this post! I’ll take a closer look at the details. Sounds a little too good to be true 🙂
Tom Ewer says
All I can say is that I’ll help you as much as I can! Whether that’s too good to be true is probably a matter of opinion 😉
Dawn says
Tom, just found you through a post you did over at Pat Flynn’s blog. VERY interested in this idea, as I have no blog yet and I love Blue Host. Any level of help from you would be awesome, since I am totally new to this. I am trying to transition from my home baking business to blogging (hopefully about something in the baking area). I want to be able to take my business with me anywhere I go in the world. Anyway, definitely interested in your idea.
Tom Ewer says
Hey Dawn,
I was thinking of starting a home bakery business myself not too long ago, so we must be kindred spirits 🙂
Cheers,
Tom
Lorraine Reguly says
Tom, that’s very generous of you.
I’ve been blogging for over two years now, first on a free site, then on my own.
Right now, I’m in the process of revamping Wording Well. I know I need a new, responsive theme, a new logo, a new tagline, and a narrow focus. I have already updated my home page, and I’d like your advice.
When you think of the words “Wording Well,” what comes to mind?
Any ideas on how I can improve my site?
I sure would appreciate some input, as I’ve seen you around the web many times. I’m even thinking of joining Paid To Blog!
Thanks,
Lorraine
Tom Ewer says
Hi Lorraine,
To be honest, I’m not initially sure what to make of the words “Wording Well”. My initial assumption is that it would be about good spelling, grammar, etc., but given that “Wording Well” is a somewhat creative use of grammar, I’m not sure…
I’d agree that you need a new theme and logo. I’d consider that a fairly big priority.
Cheers,
Tom
