If you’re a loyal Leaving Work Behind reader, you might reasonably have wondered at some point over the past four months or so (here was my last post).
The answer is neither short nor simple, but in this post I want to explain what I’ve been up to, what my plans are for the future, and how Leaving Work Behind fits into all that.
Time flies when you’re having fun!
My two week vacation in Sri Lanka has come and gone with a blur. I was able to get away from my business entirely (not a single email checked nor tweet sent!) for the entire time – a big success.
Although I had plenty of time to reflect on things, I managed to switch off for the vast majority of the time. Getting away from my business gave me a great deal of perspective, and I have returned with a more concrete idea of where I want to go from here.

As you may already know, I’m going on vacation in just a few days!
I leave for Sri Lanka on 28th February and return on 17th March, and for that time I plan to be completely away from my business (and screens in general for that matter).
This is a big step for me, and I’ve spent the last couple of weeks preparing my business for my absence (as I mentioned last week). But for the time being, I just wanted to let you know what my absence means for you. Keep Reading

On 28th February my girlfriend and I will be stepping on a plane to Dubai. From there we’ll catch another plane to Colombo, and my Asian adventure will begin!
As the time to leave grows nearer, I find myself getting more excited – for more that one reason. Vacationing in a completely alien part of the world will be an adventure in itself, but beyond that, my trip to Sri Lanka represents a experiment that could change the way I do business forever. It’s been a long time since I last brought you up to speed on my goings-on.
Why? Because for the past several months, I don’t really feel like I’ve had anything to say! Not a lot has been going on from a business perspective, and I’ve hardly felt like the best possible example of the hard work and sacrifice it takes to leave work behind, nor the level of motivation that is required.
But now I want to take this opportunity to bring you up to speed. The past few months have been eventful in their own way, and I now find myself in a place of relative calm from which I can reflect upon 2014 and consider what I may choose to do in 2015 – both professionally and personally.
